What is a cut order?
A cut order is the instruction to cut a specific quantity of a garment, broken down by colour and size.
Also called: cutting ticket, lay.
It converts a production plan into fabric consumption: the size breakdown drives the marker, the marker drives the yardage, and the yardage comes off real rolls.
Issuing fabric against a cut order from named rolls rather than from a style total is what keeps inventory honest through production, and what makes it possible to trace a fault back to the lot it came from.
