What is a converter?
A converter buys greige (undyed, unfinished) fabric, has it dyed, printed or finished to order, and sells the finished cloth.
The converter carries the risk between the mill and the buyer: they own the goods through processing, and a shade or print fault lands on them rather than on either end of the chain.
Because a converter holds the same style in greige, in process and in finished form, their inventory problem is harder than a straight distributor’s. The same style exists in several states at once, and only some of it is sellable.
